WORCESTER, Mass. - In a contest that came down to the final event, the Springfield women's swimming and diving team was able to beat out Holy Cross in the 200 free relay to win the meet 150.5-149.5. The Crusaders entered the last event of the day needing to win or take second and third to secure the meet victory. Springfield took first, Holy Cross finished second and the Pride edged out the Crusaders for third place and the team win.
Senior Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) led the Crusaders with victories in the 100 breast (1:08.62), 200 breast (2:34.60) and 200 IM (2:17.09). Sophomore Maggie Beaudouin (Madison, N.J.) placed first in the 100 back with a time of 2:18.25, junior Gael Carter (Tampa, Fla.) finished first in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.42 and sophomore Annie O'Shea (Washington, D.C.) claimed first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:14.00. Senior diver Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the diving team with a first place finish on the one meter board with 222.36 points.
The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team will be in action at the Hart Center on Wednesday, Nov. 11, hosting Army at 4:00 p.m.
