Ryan Named An Academic All-American

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Mary Beth Ryan (Holden, Mass.) has been selected to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America softball third team.
The outfielder represents Holy Cross this season with a 3.83 grade-point average and graduated with a degree in history. Selected as the Valedictorian for the Holy Cross Class of 2005, in addition to being chosen as the Crusader of the Year, Ryan has been named to the Dean's List every semester and has earned Patriot League Academic Honor Roll accolades three times. She has also served on the NCAA Reaccredidation Committee and the Student Advisory Council, while taking part in Holy Cross Cares Day and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
On the field, the two-year team captain holds several records for the Crusaders, including career at bats (559), career hits (179) and single season slugging percentage (.544). She is second in many season categories, including at bats (150), runs scored (31), doubles (12) and stolen bases (10), while being second in career runs (84), career stolen bases (40) and career batting average (.320). This season her .384 batting average ranked her at third all-time on the single season charts, while her 10 stolen bases ties her for fourth. Over the course of her career, she posted a .402 slugging percentage (fourth all-time), and has received All-Patriot League honors three times.
