Worcester, Mass. - Of the 42 student-athletes named to the 2005 Patriot League Softball Academic Honor Roll, Holy Cross junior Mathematics major Heather Johnson (Wrentham, Mass.) stands as the only player to post a 4.0 grade point average. In total, nine players on the Holy Cross softball team were named to the 2005 Academic Honor Roll, as announced this afternoon by Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich. In addition, senior Mary Beth Ryan (Holden, Mass.), a third team selection to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Team and the school's 2004-2005 Crusader of the Year award recipient, earned a spot on the honor roll after posting a 3.90 grade point average for the Spring semester.
Also representing Holy Cross on the academic honor roll are seniors Alycia FitzPatrick (Lake Forest, Calif.) and Michelle Green (Woburn, Mass.), juniors Nicole Dessingue (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) and Megan Lally (Lake Forest, Calif.), sophomore Sheena Stangler (Bremerton, Wash.) and freshmen Shailin Hogan (Brewster, N.Y.) and Erica McKeever (Brookfield, Conn.).
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the League's six winter or 10 spring championship sports.
A total of 863 student-athletes were named to the League's Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, including 53 with 4.0 grade point averages. The Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's indoor track & field, baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis, men's golf, women's rowing and men's and women's outdoor track & field.
