WORCESTER, Mass.- Senior softball pitcher Marsha Babcock (Ridgefield, Conn.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from April 10-16. Babcock had an outstanding week on the mound going 1-1 as she pitched in 20 innings, giving up five runs with only three earned for a 1.05 ERA.
In Holy Cross' 5-1 victory at Siena on Thursday, April 13, Babcock allowed only one run on four hits, while striking out four, to earn the complete game win. On Saturday, April 15, Babcock pitched 11 innings only allowing two earned runs on nine hits as she faced 47 batters in the 3-1 extra inning loss to Lehigh. She pitched in the last two innings of the 4-1 defeat to the Mountain Hawks on Sunday, April 16, with no earned runs on three hits. For the week, Babcock had 10 strike outs.
Babcock's 2.26 overall ERA is currently the fourth best in the Patriot League, while her .245 opposing batting average is third in the conference. This is her first season on the team.
Holy Cross' 4-3 victory over Lehigh in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday stopped Lehigh's Patriot League regular season winning streak at a league record 44 games.
The Crusaders will return to action on Tuesday, April 18, when they travel to Kingston, R.I. to face Rhode Island in a doubleheader. The first game is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
