  • The Holy Cross softball team opened the 2009 season with a victory, defeating St. Bonaventure 9-7 on Sunday, March 1. The last time the Holy Cross softball team opened the season with a win was in 2005 against St. Peter's at the Rebel Spring Games.

  • Sophomore Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) earned the win against St. Bonaventure. Belanger entered the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with Holy Cross down, 2-1, and led the Crusaders to the 9-7 victory.

  • In the 3-1 loss to Niagara, Belanger made the start in the circle, throwing her first complete game of the season.

  • The Crusaders continue action at the Rebel Spring Games, taking on Detroit, Fairfield, Valparaiso, Maine, St. Francis, Youngstown State and Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne. At the 2008 Rebel Spring Games, Holy Cross fell to Valparaiso 7-6 and 7-0, split with Fairfield, winning 4-3 and losing 13-5, defeated Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 7-2 and fell to Detroit 8-0 and 7-6.
