Holy Cross Picked Sixth In Patriot League Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross softball team was picked to finish sixth in the 2009 Patriot League preseason poll, announced by the league office on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Lehigh was picked to finish first with 50 points and 10 first place votes. Lafayette was picked second with 40 points, followed by Bucknell with 32 points, Colgate (28 points), Army (18 points) and Holy Cross (12 points). The preseason poll is voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from the Patriot League.
The Crusaders return 13 athletes from last season's squad and welcome four newcomers. The 2008 season was the most successful season since 2004, as they finished with an overall record of 10-31. Holy Cross finished with a team .260 batting average, 67 points higher than in 2007, won five Patriot League games and returns seven starters. The Crusaders will open the season on March 1 against St. Bonaventure and Detroit at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
