CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Holy Cross softball team has been picked to finish fifth in the 2006 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. Two-time defending champion Lehigh was picked to repeat as it earned 10 of 12 first place votes and 50 total points, while Army had two first place votes and 39 total points as it was picked to finish second. Colgate (34 total points), Bucknell (29 total points), Holy Cross (14 total points) and Lafayette (14 total points) rounded out the poll.
Holy Cross will kickoff the 2006 season on March 5-10, in Orlando, Fla. The Crusaders first home doubleheader is scheduled for Sunday, March 26, against Boston University at noon. Holy Cross returns seven starters and three pitchers from the 2005 season.
