WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross softball team dropped a doubleheader with Bucknell, losing by scores of 8-5 and 4-1, this afternoon at Freshman Field in Patriot League action in the Crusaders' season finale. The Crusaders conclude the season with a 5-39 overall record (2-18 Patriot League), while the Bison are 14-30 overall (7-9 Patriot League).
In the first game, Bucknell jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. In the bottom of the third the Crusaders made it a 6-2 game when Stangler hit a double off the left field fence with the bases loaded driving in juniors Rory Ogden (Latham, N.Y.) and Caitlin Deitz (Delmar, N.Y.). Bucknell increased its lead to 7-2 in the top of the fourth when Erin Curatola hit a RBI single to left field driving in Ashley Carlson in from first base. In the top of the fifth the Bison made it an 8-2 game with a home run down the left field line by Lauren Litts. In the bottom of the sixth, the Crusaders scored three runs to make it an 8-5 score with RBI singles by Ogden, freshman Amanda Audette (New Bedford, Mass.) and Elliott. Christie Wiest earned the win and Meaghan Haley recorded the save.
In the second game, the Bison took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Curatola hit a RBI double to right center. Bucknell increased its lead to 2-0 in the top of the second when Kristin Frick hit a RBI single through the left side. The Bison then added two runs in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the sixth Holy Cross scored a run with one out when Stangler singled in senior Beth Richard (Fitchburg, Mass.) who had led off the inning with a single up the middle. Haley pitched the seventh inning to earn her second save. Kate McDonald recorded the win.
