LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Holy Cross softball team traveled to Lewisburg, Pa., to take on Bucknell a conference doubleheader on Saturday. Bucknell won game one 6-0 and game two 9-1, improving to 20-27 overall (11-7 Patriot League), while Holy Cross drops to 8-27 overall (3-11 Patriot League).
The first inning of game one went scoreless, before Bucknell scored two runs in the second inning to take the lead. No runs were scored again until the fifth inning, when Bucknell added two more runs. The Bison then closed out the win in the sixth inning with another two runs to take the 6-0 victory. Holy Cross had three hits and four errors, while Bucknell had six runs, nine hits and no errors.
Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) threw a complete game for the Crusaders in game one, allowing three earned runs on nine hits in six innings.
The second game was scoreless until the third inning, when Bucknell scored four runs to take the lead. In the fourth inning the Crusaders scored when Mandy Correale (Peabody, Mass.) hit a double to left field brining Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.) home. Bucknell scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, then added one more run in the sixth to conclude the scoring.
Taking the loss for the Crusaders in game two was Amanda Audette (New Bedford, Mass.), who allowed four runs on six hits in three innings.
The Crusaders finish off the weekend against Bucknell on Sunday, April 27. Start time is set for 12:00 p.m.
