Providence Tops Crusader Softball 3-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team scored three runs on six hits to defeat Holy Cross 3-1 in non-conference action Thursday at Raymond Field. The Crusaders fall to 4-32 overall while the Friars improve to 18-15 on the season.

Senior Sheena Stangler (Bremerton, Wash.) and sophomore Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) went 2-for-3 for the Crusaders while freshman Amanda Audette (New Bedford, Mass.) added a hit.

Providence scored three runs on three hits in the third inning and held Holy Cross scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. Audette started off the Crusaders with a single to left field. Stangler followed up with a base hit RBI to left field, but it was not enough as the Friars held the Crusaders to one run winning the game, 3-1.

Holy Cross will travel to play a four-game series against conference opponent Lehigh with a doubleheader Saturday and Sunday starting at 12:00 p.m. both days.
