Bethlehem, Pa. - The Crusaders dropped two to Lehigh, 3-0 and 4-1, Saturday afternoon at Kaufman Field. With the loss Holy Cross falls to 7-14 overall and 3-7 in the Patriot League.
In the third inning, freshman Taryn Hanley ripped an RBI double plating sophomore Whitney Schenbeck with the game's first run. In the fifth, Kate Marvel drove home a run to make the score 2-0, and a Mary Wieder single drove home Jess Young with the third and final run of the game. Young was 2-for-3 at the plate in the win.
In the second game the Mountain Hawks posted four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Third baseman Kelly Kliewer led off the inning with a double to start the rally. Leading 1-0, shortstop Mendy Martin delivered the big hit of the inning - a two-run double to make the score 3-0 Lehigh. Right fielder Katherine Wegert brought home pinch runner Julie Sterrett with the Mountain Hawks' fourth run.
Holy Cross scored its lone run of the game when junior Meghan Lally (Lake Forest, Calif.) hit an RBI single, bringing home senior Mary Beth Ryan (Holden, Mass.), who reached on a single and advanced to second on a sac bunt by freshman Jayme Elliott (Gardena, Calif.).
Kate Arico (4-2) scattered four hits in the complete game victory, Lindsey MacNeil (Plymouth, N.H.) struck out one and allowed four earned runs on six hits over 3.1 innings. Greene worked 2.2 innings, walking one on three hits.
Both teams return to action on Sunday, April 10 for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. at Kaufman Field in Bethlehem, Pa.
