WORCESTER, Mass. - Colgate scored 10 runs on 12 hits to top Holy Cross in its second doubleheader of the weekend Sunday at Freshman Field, by scores of 5-0 and 5-1. The Raiders improve to 4-0 in the league while the Crusaders drop to 0-4.
In the first game, Colgate gained a 2-0 lead when Whitney Scott singled to right field and LaPorscha Albert followed with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning. The Raiders scored another two runs in the fifth after Jessi Bentovoja reached first on a dropped third strike and came home when Kortney Hannah hit one over the fence with two outs to make it 4-0. Colgate scored one more in the sixth and shutout Holy Cross to win, 5-0. Jayme Elliot (Gardena, Calif.) and Sheena Stangler (Bremerton, Wash.) each had a hit for the Crusaders in game one.
In game two, the Raiders scored first in the third inning, but the Crusaders retaliated with a home run from sophomore Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) in the fourth to tie the game at one. Colgate rallied in the fifth scoring three runs to make it a 4-1 game. The Raiders scored one more in the sixth to win the game 5-1. Holy Cross had five hits in the second game as freshman Amanda Audette (New Bedford, Mass.) hit two and Stangler and Cruz added one each.
The Crusaders are back in action when they play host to Central Connecticut Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
