Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Holy Cross softball team took on Boston College in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders were defeated in the first game 8-4 and then again in the second game 4-3, falling to 2-13 overall while Boston College improves to 18-15.
In the first game, Jayme Elliot (Gardena, Calif), Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.), Amanda Webster (Kenmore, N.Y.) and Amanda Audette (New Bedford, Mass,) all scored runs for the Crusaders. Audette also posted a pair of RBIs for Holy Cross. The Crusaders had a total of six hits for the game.
Pitching for Holy Cross was Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.), who posted two strikeouts, while allowing 10 hits, eight runs and three walks. Closing out the game was Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) who threw two scoreless innings and recorded one strike out.
In game two of the night, Webster and Caitlin Deitz (Delmar, N.Y.) both drove in runs for the Crusaders, as Holy Cross totaled six hits for the game.
Pitching for the second game was Audette, who threw a complete game, giving up two earned runs on six hits.
The Crusaders take on Colgate in their first conference doubleheader of the season on March 29. Start time is set for 12:00 p.m.
