KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Senior Megan Lally (Lake Forest, Calif.) had an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, to break a 1-1 tie and give the Holy Cross softball team a 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart at the Osceola Complex. The Crusaders improve to 2-7 on the season, while Sacred Heart falls to 2-5.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with an unearned run. Megan Spehar reached on an error, and later scored on an RBI double by Jen Place. Holy Cross tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, when sophomore Jayme Elliott (Gardena, Calif.) singled and scored on an RBI triple from freshman Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.).
The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh, when freshman Brooke Perrone (Southington, Conn.) reached on an error and sophomore Mallory Centonze (Victor, N.Y.) reached on catcher's interference. Following a sacrifice bunt, Lally delivered her RBI single to knock in Perrone and end the game.
Senior Marsha Babcock (Ridgefield, Conn.) earned the win for the Crusaders, allowing no earned runs on just four hits in a seven-inning, complete game effort, while striking out four. Bethany Lemenager took the loss for Sacred Heart, giving up two runs on four hits in 6-2/3 innings.
