KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Tennessee State's Leena Worrell had two doubles and drove in three runs, to lead the Tigers to a 7-1 victory over the Holy Cross softball team at the Osceola Complex. The Crusaders fall to 1-7 on the season, while Tennessee State improves to 7-10.
After the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an unearned run, Holy Cross tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Freshman Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) singled and scored on an RBI single by sophomore Mallory Centonze (Victor, N.Y.).
Tennessee State then went back in front, 3-1, in the top of the third, on a two-run homer by Emily Samana. The Tigers then went up 5-1 with two unearned runs in the fourth, as Worrell had a two-run double following a pair of errors. Tennessee State added single runs in the sixth and seventh to conclude the scoring, on an RBI double from Worrell and an RBI triple by Nira Robbins.
Samantha Hurst picked up the win for the Tigers, allowing one run on six hits in a seven-inning, complete game effort. Junior Lindsey MacNeil (Plymouth, N.H.) took the loss for the Crusaders, allowing two earned runs on two hits in 3-1/3 innings of work.
