KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Robert Morris pitcher Danielle Cohen threw a complete game shutout, to lead the Colonials to a 4-0 victory over the Holy Cross softball team at the Osceola Complex. The contest was the season opener for both schools, as Robert Morris begins the year 1-0 and Holy Cross starts the season 0-1.
The Colonials took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Brenna Reed, then increased the lead to 3-0 in the sixth, as Keri Meyer and Kali Byers both drove in runs. Robert Morris concluded the scoring in the seventh on an RBI single by Crystal Harris.
Cohen allowed only four hits and four walks in seven innings of work, while striking out nine to start the season 1-0. Junior Sheena Stangler (Bremerton, Wash.) took the loss for the Crusaders, giving up three runs on five hits in 5-1/3 innings, with four strikeouts. Stangler also led Holy Cross at the plate, going two for two with a pair of singles.
