PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Keeley Seniuk (Phoenix, Ariz.) went two for three with three RBI and one run scored as the Holy Cross softball team fell to Brown, 12-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Providence, R.I. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-9, while the Bears improve to 2-3.
Holy Cross came out swinging, scoring one run in the first inning. Sophomore Tiffany Medwid (Imperial, Pa.) got the Holy Cross offense started, ripping a one out double to left field. Medwid then stole third and scored on the two out double by Seniuk. The Bears did not waste any time regaining the lead. A lead off error by the Crusaders and two home runs gave Brown the 5-1 advantage.
Brown added two runs in the bottom of the third inning and two in the bottom of the fourth before the Crusaders were able to get across home plate. Holy Cross scored two runs in the top of the fifth on a two run home run by Seniuk, but was unable to score again as Brown added three runs in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game in favor of the Bears, 12-3.
Senior pitcher Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) started on mound for the Crusaders, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up six earned runs on seven hits. Sophomore Katie Alexander (Tigard, Ore.) and freshman Camille Trainor (Worcester, Mass.) entered the game in relief. Miche Moses pitched for the Bears, picking up her second win of the season. Holy Cross scored three runs on seven hits, while the Bears scored 12 runs on 13 hits.
Holy Cross will continue competition on the road, traveling to Stony Brook, N.Y. on Saturday-Sunday, March 21-22 for the Stony Brook Invitational. The Crusaders will play Stony Brook at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and will then play Quinnipiac at 10:30 a.m. and Fairfield at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
