Washington, D.C. - The Crusaders softball team traveled to Washington D.C. to compete against Mount Saint Mary's in this afternoon's non-conference game. Holy Cross was defeated 3-2 dropping to 2-9 while MSM improved to 6-18.
The Crusaders scored their first run in the second inning when junior Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) came across the plate with an RBI from sophomore Courtney Nealon (Rochester, N.Y.) to make the score 1-0.
The final run for Holy Cross was scored by freshman Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.) in the sixth inning with an RBI from Cruz. MSM scored two runs to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the eighth inning MSM scored one final run to win the game.
On the mound for the Crusaders was Cruz, recording one strike out and giving up one walk. Closing out the game in the last two innings was freshman Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) giving up one walk and three runs.
The Crusaders play again this afternoon (March 15) against Seton Hall.
