Peter Maneggia enters his second season as head softball coach for the Crusaders and is looking to improve upon the 9-35 finish in 2006. Maneggia, who is the seventh head coach in the 27-year history of the program, came to Holy Cross after serving as the Division III softball head coach at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, Conn. He led the Jays to a 6-28 mark in 2005. Prior to his time at Saint Joseph, Maneggia spent four years as the assistant softball coach at Central Connecticut State University where he was involved in all facets of the program including recruiting, game preparation and fund raising. He was part of a program at Central Connecticut that set a school record for conference wins in 2004. Maneggia also served as an assistant at Eastern Connecticut State University from 1999-2000. While at ECSU, Maneggia helped lead the Warriors to the Little East Conference Tournament in 2000. During the 1999 season, Maneggia was an assistant at Trinity College in Connecticut, where he prepared practice schedules, coordinated offensive and defensive drills, evaluated players, recruited student-athletes, and monitored the academic progress and eligibility of the players, in addition to serving as the team's third base coach. Maneggia's background further includes serving as head coach at Coventry (Conn.) High School from 1996-98. Under Maneggia's direction, Coventry advanced to the conference tournament finals in 1996, and made it to the quarterfinals of the state tournament in 1997 and 1998. While at Coventry, Maneggia coached a pair of all-state players and 10 all-conference players. Maneggia started his career with a one-year stint at Griswold High School in Jewett City, Conn., where he led the team to the QVC South League Championship in 1994 and a state semifinal appearance. In 1995, Maneggia brought GHS to the state quarterfinals. During his time at Griswold, Maneggia helped produce two all-state players and seven all-conference players. Maneggia has also coached scholastic volleyball, soccer and baseball. He was involved with the 1994 Windham Wildcats 16U ASA Softball Travel Team. He helped coach a men's team to gold medals in the open division at the 1989 and 1990 Nutmeg Games, and later worked with The Connecticut Junior Olympic Volleyball Team in 1992. Maneggia is a 1988 graduate of New Hampshire College, where he earned a degree in Human Service Administration. He and his wife Donalyn, have two children, Alex and Mckenzie.
