WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team has released its 2014 schedule, announced by head coach Brian Claypool. The squad will play in 43 regular season games, starting with a spring break trip to Tennessee from March 3-8. The squad opens up with doubleheaders against Austin Peay (March 3), Tennessee State (March 4) and Tennessee Tech (March 5).

The Crusaders will then take part in the University of Tennessee Tournament in Knoxville. The tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, March 7-8. Holy Cross will face Western Kentucky and USA Today/NCFS Division I Top 25 preseason No. 1 Tennessee on Friday followed by the College of Charleston and Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Holy Cross will return north for the remainder of the season, beginning with the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16, where it will face Sacred Heart and Stony Brook on both days. 

Patriot League play will begin on March 22-23, with the Crusaders traveling to Easton, Pa. to take on Lafayette in a newly formatted three-game series, playing a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. The team will continue its road stretch starting against UMass Lowell (March 27), Bucknell (March 29-30) and Central Connecticut (April 2).

Holy Cross opens the home portion of its softball schedule with a doubleheader in non-conference action against Siena on Thursday, April 3 at Freshman Field. They will then face Central Connecticut (April 9) before the first home conference games on Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13 versus Boston University. A midweek doubleheader versus Brown (April 15) concludes the eight-game home stand.

The Crusaders will then play their final five road contests. The team will face conference foe Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. on April 19-20 in a three-game series before heading to Marist (April 23) for a doubleheader in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Holy Cross returns to Freshman Field on April 26-27 for conference action against Army. In midweek play, the Crusaders will host fellow in-state team UMass Lowell for a doubleheader on April 29. Colgate will come to Worcester for the final three regular season games of the year on Saturday-Sunday, May 3-4. 

The Patriot League Tournament will be held May 8-10 at the site of the regular season champion.
