Fregenti, Gustafson, Barrett Earn 2013 Preseason All-League Recognition

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) and junior captain Alex Gustafson (Medford, Mass.) have been selected to the Patriot League preseason All-League team, as voted on by coaches and sports information directors from the conference's six teams. Fregenti, Gustafson and junior pitcher Julia Barrett (Gardner, Mass.) were also named to College Sports Madness' preseason All-Conference teams, selected by the website's staff.

Fregenti, a second team All-League selection last season, led the Crusaders in 2012 with a .307 batting average, four home runs, 18 runs batted in, 39 hits, 57 total bases, a .360 on-base percentage and a .449 slugging percentage. She has set the new Holy Cross career home run record at 19 and enters the 2013 campaign first all-time in career slugging percentage (.582). She was named to the College Sports Madness preseason All-Conference second team.

Gustafson, also a second team All-League selection in 2012, led the team last season with 11 multiple-hit games. She was second on the team in batting average (.294), hits (37), runs batted in (12) and total bases (47), and tied for second on the team in home runs with two. She was named to the College Sports Madness preseason All-Conference first team.

Barrett was named to the College Sports Madness All-Conference second team. Barrett compiled a team-low 2.23 earned run average while striking out 74 batters in 128 and two-thirds innings in 2012. Her ERA was third-best in the Patriot League and enters the 2013 season ranking third all-time in Holy Cross history with a career ERA of 2.52.

Holy Cross was selected to finish sixth in the Patriot League preseason poll, as voted on by the conference's coaches and sports information directors. Lehigh was selected to finish first with 47 points and seven first place votes. Army landed second with 45 points and five first place votes, followed by Colgate (34 points,), Lafayette (22), Bucknell (17) and Holy Cross (15).

The Crusaders will begin the 2013 season at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. on Sunday, March 3.
