WORCESTER, Mass. - Ten members of the Holy Cross softball team have been selected to the 2012 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office. The Crusaders' 10 selections to the honor roll were the most in the league this season. Leading the way for Holy Cross was senior utility player Camille Trainor (Worcester, Mass.), who was named to the team for the third time in her career.
Crusaders who earned their second career selection to the honor roll were junior designated player Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) and sophomore outfielder Sarah Free (Claremont, Calif.). In addition, senior outfielder Nicole Ortiz (Whittier, Calif.), junior utility player Kat Rosenthal (Boston, Mass.), sophomore third baseman Alex Gustafson (Medford, Mass.), sophomore catcher Amber Jones (Manorville, N.Y.), freshman second baseman Emma Keough (Rochester, Mass.), freshman catcher Abigail Lang (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman shortstop Ashleigh Vargas (Wakefield, Mass.) were all honored for the first time.
A total of 42 student-athletes from softball teams around the league earned spots on this year's Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a grade point average of 3.20 or better during the spring semester.
