WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross softball team has released its 2012 schedule, announced by athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. and head coach Brian Claypool. The squad will play in 45 total regular season games starting with a trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. In Florida the team will start play on Sunday, March 4th with games against Detroit and Sacred Heart.
The team will be playing a span of 12 games in Florida, from March 4-March 10. The Crusaders will be playing a doubleheader every day, continuing play against South Dakota and Indiana State (March 5), St. Francis (Pa.) and Yale (March 6), Penn and Indiana State (March 8), Detroit and Utah Valley (March 9) and Akron and Manhattan (March 10).
The Crusaders will then head back north for the remainder of their play. They will be starting on the road playing a doubleheader at Stony Brook (March 17) and a single-game on Thursday, March 22 at Central Connecticut. Holy Cross will begin at home with a pair of doubleheaders against Marist (March 24) and Rhode Island (March 27).
The Patriot League season will get under way when the Crusaders find themselves back on the road traveling to West Point, N.Y. for a two day, four game series versus Army (March 31-April 1). The Crusaders return home to Freshman Field to host four straight opponents, including Lafayette (April 7-8), Hartford (April 12), Lehigh (April 14-15) and Siena (April 17). The Crusaders travel then to Lewisburg, Pa. to play conference foe Bucknell for a two day, four game series (April 21-22). Holy Cross returns home to play one game against Harvard (April 26), then find themselves back on the road to play Colgate (April 28-29). The 2012 regular season concludes at Freshman Field with a single game against Central Connecticut (May 2).
After the season wraps up against the Blue Devils, the Crusaders will aim for another trip to the Patriot League Championship, which begins May 10.
The Crusaders completed the 2011 season with a record of 18-31 overall (10-10 Patriot League). The 2012 team will be led by junior Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) and seniors Gwen Reimer (Pottsville, Pa.) and Camille Trainor (Worcester, Mass.).
