WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross softball head coach Brian Claypool has announced that junior Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) and seniors Gwen Reimer (Pottsville, Pa.) and Camille Trainor (Worcester, Mass.) have been named tri-captains for the 2012 season.
Fregenti was named to the 2011 All-Patriot League tournament team. She led the Crusaders in the tournament with three RBI, knocking out two home runs and going two-for-five from the plate. She boasted a 1.600 slugging percentage. On the season, Fregenti finished third on the team with a .360 batting average. She hit a single-season record 11 homeruns and also finished on top of the single-season records list in RBI (34) and slugging percentage (.691).
Reimer batted .322 over her junior season, ranking fourth on the squad. The first baseman was solid defensively, leading the squad with a .989 fielding percentage after committing just four errors on the season. She was selected to the second team All-Patriot League for the first time in her career.
Trainor was also named to the 2011 All-Patriot League tournament team. She was an offensive spark in the tournament, batting .429 over the two contests. She tied the team-high with three hits, including her second home run of the season against Army. On the season, Trainor finished with 22 hits, 10 runs scored and six RBI. She played 22 games as the team's right fielder and 10 games at second base. She reached base in her last four games of the season and had five multi-hit games in all.
Claypool was named the 2011 Patriot League Coach of the Year and returns 13 letterwinners from last year's squad and adds six newcomers. The Crusaders finished 18-31 last season, including 10 wins in conference action. The 10 wins were the most for the squad since 2003.
