Holy Cross’ Caitlin Belanger Playing Softball For Neunkirchen Nightmares

WORCESTER, Mass. – Recent Holy Cross graduate Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) has signed a contract to play softball for the Neunkirchen Nightmares out of Neunkirchen Seelscheid, Germany. The Nightmares (9-1 overall) are a member of the Softball Bundesliga Nord professional softball league.

In Belanger's first game with the team she played first base, had four RBI and scored three runs in route to a 17-1 victory over the Brauweiler Raging Abbots. In game two of the doubleheader, Belanger pitched and scored three runs as the Nightmares won 22-2. Belanger will take the field again on Thursday, June 23 for a doubleheader. Belanger wrapped up her career at Holy Cross fifth all-time with 81 runs scored, tied for fifth with 25 doubles, first with 55 stolen bases, second with 53 walks. As a pitcher, Belanger finished tied for sixth with 48 starts, tied for fifth with 24 complete games and fifth with 17 career wins. She led all starters with a .373 batting average and started in a team-high 16 games from the circle this season. She also scored a team-high 40 runs and had 59 hits, leading the team in that category as well.  She was named to the second team All-Patriot League for the second straight season and was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region Northeast second team.
