WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior softball player Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.) has been named to the 2011 Patriot League Academic All-League team in the sport of softball. The senior outfielder is one of 11 players selected to the team. The All-Academic team was added for all sports beginning in the 2010-2011 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. To be eligible the athlete has to have at least a 3.20 total grade point average. The athlete must also be a starter or a key player in her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. The team is voted on by softball sports information directors around the conference who could not vote for their own student-athletes.
Fleming, a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, is a Language Acquisition and Culture major at Holy Cross with a 3.43 GPA and was recently selected to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District I second team. Fleming has started in 45 of the Crusaders' 47 contests and is hitting .230 with four home runs and 23 RBI. She is tied for the league lead with three triples and is slugging .403 with a .283 on-base percentage and a .988 fielding percentage. Thirteen of her 32 hits have gone for extra bases and she's scored 15 times.
Fleming currently ranks second all-time at Holy Cross with 535 career at bats, second with 82 RBI and third with 14 career home runs. She has played in 169 games for the Crusaders, starting in 165, and made an appearance at every position during collegiate career.
Holy Cross (18-29 overall, 10-10 Patriot League) kicks off postseason play at the Patriot League Tournament on May 12. The Crusaders earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 Lehigh in the opening game of the tournament at 2:00 p.m. Regular-season champion, Colgate, earned the No. 1 seed and hosting responsibilities.
