WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore designated player Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) has been named the Patriot League Softball Player of the Week announced today by the league. Fregenti played in both ends of the Crusaders' doubleheader at home against Central Connecticut and went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles as Holy Cross dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to the Blue Devils. In the nightcap, she went 2-for-3 with another double as Holy Cross fell 5-0. For the day, she went 5-for-6 (.833) with three extra base hits, giving her a 1.333 slugging percentage. Fregenti is second on the team and fifth in the Patriot League hitting .358 on the season with nine home runs, 31 RBI and 13 doubles. Her .657 slugging percentage is tops in the league entering the Patriot League Tournament, which starts Thursday.
The Crusaders (18-29 overall, 10-10 Patriot League) earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 Lehigh in the opening game of the Patriot League Tournament at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12. Regular-season champion, Colgate, earned the No. 1 seed and hosting responsibilities. The Raiders will play No. 4 Army in the nightcap at 4:30 p.m.
