WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior softball player Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.) has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District I second team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. Fleming earns the honor for the first time, becoming just the fourth member of the softball team to be selected to the All-District team.
Fleming, a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, is a Language Acquisition and Culture major at Holy Cross with a 3.43 GPA. She has started 44 of the Crusaders' 46 contests and is hitting .215 with four home runs and 21 RBI. She is tied for the league lead with three triples and is slugging .393 with a .270 on-base percentage and a .988 fielding percentage. Thirteen of her 29 hits have gone for extra bases and she's scored 15 times.
The senior outfielder currently ranks second all-time at Holy Cross with 531 career at bats, second with 80 RBI and third with 14 career home runs. She has played in 168 games for the Crusaders, starting in 164, and made an appearance at every position during collegiate career.
Holy Cross wraps up the 2011 regular season on the road at Hartford on Thursday, May 5 before kicking off postseason play at the Patriot League Tournament on May 12. The Crusaders earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 Lehigh in the opening game of the tournament at 2:00 p.m. Regular-season champion, Colgate, earned the No. 1 seed and hosting responsibilities. The Raiders will play No. 4 Army in the nightcap at 4:30 p.m.
