WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore designated player Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) has been named the Patriot League Softball Player of the Week announced today by the league. Fregenti led Holy Cross as it salvaged the last game of its four-game series against Patriot League-leading Colgate, going 3-for-3 at the plate in Monday's nightcap with three home runs and five RBI as the Crusaders posted a 10-7 win. This is Fregenti's first Player of the Week honor, as she previously was named Rookie of the Week during the 2010 season.
Fregenti's third homer of the game against the Raiders was her ninth of the season, which broke the Holy Cross single-season record. It also puts her into an eighth-place tie on the Patriot League's single-season list. She batted .500 (7-for-14) for the week, also collecting a home run and a pair of RBI in a 3-for-3 day in an 11-5 loss at Siena. She finished the week with four home runs, eight RBI, four runs scored and a double. She posted a .632 on-base percentage and slugged 1.429.
Holy Cross (16-23 overall, 9-7 Patriot League) hosts Boston University in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 26 before traveling to Lehigh for the final Patriot League regular season series of the year on April 30-May 1.
