WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior first baseman Gwen Reimer (Pottsville, Pa.) has been named the ECAC Division I Player of the Week, announced today by the ECAC. Reimer was selected for the honor after being named Patriot League Player of the Week on April 4. Reimer led the Crusaders to a 4-2 record last week, including a four-game sweep of Patriot League opponent Lafayette.
In six games last week Reimer hit .476 (10-for-21), but she saved her best for the four-game set at Lafayette, going 8-for-15 at the plate in the weekend sweep of the Leopards. She batted .533 against Lafayette with five RBI, four runs scored, a double and a triple, and had the game-winning hit in the 12th inning of Sunday's nightcap to give Holy Cross a 3-2 win. She recorded four hits in two of the contests versus the Leopards, going 4-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's 10-5 win and then went 4-for-6 in Sunday's second game. The junior first baseman from Pottsville, Pa., is fifth on the team with a .309 batting average and is third on the team with 11 RBI. This is Reimer's first ECAC Player of the Week award.
Holy Cross (10-12 overall, 4-0 Patriot League) returns to Worcester for a five-game home stand starting with a single game against Bryant on Wednesday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m. The Crusaders will open Patriot League play at Freshman Field with a four-game series against Army starting on Saturday, April 9 at 12:00 p.m.
