Caitlin Belanger Named ECAC Division I Softball Player Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior infielder Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) has been named ECAC Division I Player of the Week, announced today by the ECAC. Belanger was eligible for the honor after being named Patriot League Player of the Week on April 26. Belanger led the Holy Cross softball team to a 4-2 record last week, including a 3-1 record against Patriot League opponent Lafayette.
In six games last week, Belanger batted .526 with a .789 slugging percentage. She hit two doubles and had a grand slam to drive in eight runs. Against Lafayette, Belanger went eight for 14 with six RBI and stole four bases. Her 23 stolen bases this season set a new Holy Cross single-season record and her 17 walks are tied for fifth on the single-season record list.
In the pitcher's circle, Belanger picked up two Patriot League wins including a 10 inning battle in Sunday's game. In 19 innings of work last week, she recorded a 3.32 ERA and struck out 11 batters.
The Crusaders (13-27, 7-9 Patriot League) will host Bryant in a mid-week game on Wednesday, April 28 at Freshman Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
