WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior infielder Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) has been named Patriot League Player of the Week announced today by the league. Belanger helped lead the Holy Cross softball team to three Patriot League victories over Lafayette last weekend. This is the first time that Belanger has received this honor.
Belanger batted .526 with a .789 slugging percentage in six games last week. She hit two doubles and had a grand slam to drive in eight runs. Against Lafayette, Belanger went eight for 14 with six RBI and stole four bases. Her 23 stolen bases this season set a new Holy Cross single season record and her 17 walks are tied for fifth on the single season record list. Belanger is currently in the midst of a five game hit streak.
In the pitcher's circle, Belanger picked up two Patriot League wins including a 10 inning battle in Sunday's game. In 19 innings of work last week, she recorded a 3.32 ERA and struck out 11 batters. Belanger leads the Crusaders with 11 complete games this season.
Holy Cross will host Bryant in a mid-week game on Wednesday, April 28 and then welcome Lehigh to Freshman Field on Saturday-Sunday, May 1-2 for a Patriot League four-game series.
