WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.) and freshman Sam Fregenti (Melville, N.Y.) have been named Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week for their performances in last week’s games. Together the duo hit seven home runs in six games last week, including home runs in Holy Cross’ two wins over Colgate on Sunday.
Fleming batted .500, hit four home runs and drove in eight runs in six contests last week. She scored in all six of the Crusaders’ games, giving her eight runs scored for the week. She collected a hit in all five of the games in which she started, including four multiple-hit efforts. She hit a home run in each of Holy Cross’ two Patriot League victories, including a grand slam in the series finale against Colgate. Fleming now has five home runs this season, tying the Holy Cross single-season record. This is the first Patriot League weekly honor for Fleming.
Fregenti batted .462 with three home runs and five RBI in five games last week. She hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the Crusaders’ Patriot League doubleheader sweep at Colgate on Sunday. Her solo home run in the fifth inning in Sunday’s first game helped Holy Cross complete a comeback, giving the Crusaders their first lead of the contest in an 8-6 triumph over the Raiders. For the week, Fregenti compiled a 1.308 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage. It is the first time that Fregenti has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
Holy Cross (8-20, 4-4 Patriot League) returns to Freshman Field for a doubleheader with Siena on Tuesday, April 13 before hitting the road for a four-game series with Patriot League opponent Army on Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18.
