WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Caitlin Belanger (Fall River, Mass.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from March 1-7. Belanger led the Holy Cross softball team to a 4-5 record last week, as it opened the 2010 season at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
Belanger was the top pitcher for the Crusaders in Florida, posting a 1-1 record with a 1.48 earned run average, 15 strikeouts and two saves over 23-2/3 innings pitched. She earned the victory with a complete game four-hitter in Thursday's 3-1 win over Maine, while picking up saves in the 9-7 victory over Dayton on Monday and the 8-1 win over South Dakota on Friday.
In addition to her pitching, Belanger also played second base and was one of the top hitters for Holy Cross. She went seven for 22 (.318) on the week with three doubles, four stolen bases and seven runs scored. Belanger also drew eight walks, and led the team with a .516 on-base percentage.
Over the course of her collegiate career, Belanger now has a 6-11 record in the circle with a 3.24 earned run average, 71 strikeouts and four saves. She also owns a .257 career batting average with 14 stolen bases and 23 runs scored.
Holy Cross (4-5 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, March 16, when it travels to Bryant for a 4:00 p.m. game.
