Katherine Donnelly Named Patriot League Rookie Of The Year
Nov. 6, 2008
WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross freshman midfielder Katherine Donnelly (Londonderry, N.H) has been named the 2008 Patriot League Rookie of the Year for women's soccer, as voted by the conference's head coaches. Donnelly is only the second Crusader to ever win this award. Kirsten Eckman was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 1990.
Donnelly completed the 2008 season tied for eighth on the Holy Cross single-season goals record list with eight goals and finished as the leading goal scorer for the Crusaders. Donnelly's eight goals combined with three assists gave her 19 points and was just two points shy of making the single-season points record list. In the Patriot League, Donnelly is tied for second in goals scored and tied for third in total points.
Donnelly was named the Brine Patriot League Rookie of the Week twice during the 2008 season. On Sept. 22 she was honored for scoring three goals in two games as the Crusaders split a pair of contests against Fairfield (2-1 loss) and Wagner (3-1 victory). She was honored again on Oct. 28 for a five-point performance against Patriot League opponents American (1-1 tie) and Navy (3-2 loss).
The Crusaders completed the 2008 season with a 4-14-1 overall record and were 2-4-1 in the Patriot League.
