Annapolis, Md. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team was defeated by Navy, 5-1, Saturday morning.
Sophomore Meredith Davis (Worcester, Mass.) scored the Crusaders' only goal of the game in the 23rd minute on a deflected shot from senior Mary Jones (Merrimac, Mass.). Sophomore Lauren Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.) and Jones were credited with the assist.
The Midshipmen got on the board first at 9:53 in the first when Claire Henry headed the ball into the net off a pass from Meggie Curran and Emma Hagen. Minutes after the Crusaders evened the score at one-all Navy's Curran responded with a goal with help from Stephanie Parker.
Navy went on to score three more goals in the second half. Sarah Hessinger scored midway through the stanza with an assist from Parker. The Midshipmen scored two late period goals just 28 seconds apart at 87:42 and 88:10. Katie Eames and Carmen Myers were credited with the goals.
Sophomore Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) made two saves for the Crusaders while Kim Bonafede stopped three Holy Cross shots for the win.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Hart Soccer Field for Senior Day when they take on Lehigh at 1 p.m.
