Cambridge, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to Harvard, 1-5, Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Lynette Zickl (Sherborn, Mass.) mustered the Crusaders' lone goal of the game in the 35th minute off a pass from Christine Watson (Avon, Conn.). The goal was Zickl's first of the season and second of her career.
The Crimson was led by Megan Merritt (Northridge, Calif.), who scored her first three collegiate goals. Merritt got Harvard on the board just two minutes into the game on a corner kick from Katie Johnston (Sudbury, Ont.). The freshman later scored goals four and five of the game. Goal four was scored on a pass from Maile Tavepholjalern (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Danielle Mirabal (Spring, Texas), while the fifth was on a pass from Jamie Greenwald (St. Louis, Mo.).
Sophomore Eileen Geoghegan (Merrimac, Mass.) and Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) split time in goal for Holy Cross. Pietrowicz played the first half stopping six shots and allowing two goals, while Geoghegan stepped in during the second half stopping five shots and allowing three goals.
Holy Cross travels to Lewisburg , Pa. on Saturday, Oct. 16 to take on Bucknell at 1 p.m. The Crusaders return home one last time on Saturday, Oct. 30 to take on league rival Lehigh on Senior's Day at 1 p.m.
