Crusaders Pounce on Leopards

Easton, Pa. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team won its first Patriot League game of the season, a 2-1 victory over Lafayette, Saturday afternoon in front of 286 fans at Metzgar Field.

The Crusaders got on the board first at the 35 minute mark when freshman Alison Peters (Bolton, Mass.) scored her first collegiate-goal unassisted.

The Leopards opened up the second half with a goal. Ashley Yelland scored just 1:53 into the half to tie the game at 1-all.

Senior Mary Jones (Merrimac, Mass.) scored the game-winner at 53:46 into the game on a cross from sophomore Christine Watson (Avon, Conn.) , to put the Crusaders in the lead, 2-1, for good.

Keeper Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) allowed only one goal in 90 minutes of action to take the win, improving her record to 2-6. Lafayette 's Mary Kate Erdman made seven saves and allowed two goals to take the loss.

The Leopards falls to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League, while the Crusaders improve to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League.

Holy Cross returns home to the Hart Soccer Field on Saturday, Oct. 9 at Noon to take on league rival Colgate.
