Worcester, Mass. - Sophomore Meredith Davis (Worcester, Mass. ) scored two goals in the second half to propel the Holy Cross women's soccer team into double-over time, however Albany' Uju Ogbuawa scored the game winning goal 2:54 into the second over-time to give the Great Danes the 3-2 victory, on Friday evening at the Fitton Soccer Field.
Holy Cross made its season debut under new Head Coach Deb Flaherty (Michigan '97) falling to 0-1 against Albany (1-0).
With 1:12 remaining in the second half, Davis scored the game tying goal with an assist from senior Lynette Zickl (Sherborn, Mass) to put the score at two each.
Davis scored the Crusaders' first goal at the 59:08 mark into game when Davis received a pass from sophomore Kristen Locke (Martinsville , N.J) .
Ogbuawa scored Albany 's first goal 13 minutes into the first half.
The Crusaders had 23 shots, 19 of which were on goal. Albany 's goaltender Kate Lawler made 12 saves to take the win.
Freshman Jessica Pietrowicz ( Worcester , Mass. ) made her first appearance for Holy Cross, stopping two shots on goal 58 minutes of playing time.
Holy Cross' next game is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31 when it visits Boston College . The Crusaders return home on Sunday, Sept. 5 to take on Siena at 1 p.m.
