Women's Soccer Falls To Lehigh, 3-0, In Season Finale

Worcester, Mass.- Lehigh scored three goals in the second half as the Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to the Mountain Hawks, 3-0, in the last game of the year for the Crusaders, on Sunday afternoon at Hart Soccer Field. Holy Cross finishes the season with a 3-15 overall record (1-6 PL), while the Mountain Hawks improve to 14-2-1 overall (6-1 PL) and will host as the #1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
After a scoreless first half, Lehigh got on the board at the 51:50 mark when Melissa Montalvo shot the ball into the lower left corner of the net from a pass by Lauren Calabrese. The Mountain Hawks extended its lead to 2-0, when Courtney Jackson shot a 25 yarder just under the cross bar with an assist given to Christin Johnson. With just five seconds remaining in the game, Shannon Lockwood sent a corner kick into the box where Lauren Fornuto then placed it into the net.
Crusader sophomore goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) made nine saves, while Lehigh's Julie Kafka stopped eight shots for the win and her 12th shutout of the season.
Before the game, seniors Amy Canning (Greenwich, Conn.) and captain Allison Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y.) were recognized for their four years of accomplishments. Canning, who has overcome two reconstructive knee surgeries started and played most of the game, as it marked her first collegiate game played. She is also a member of the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team. Hayes concludes her career with 61 games played and 30 starts, with three goals and five assists. She is also a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
