Worcester, Mass.- The Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to Harvard, 3-0, in non-conference action, on Tuesday afternoon at Hart Soccer Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-12, while the Crimson improve to 7-3-3. Harvard's Erin Wylie scored two goals and goalie Katie Shields set a school single-season record with her 10th shutout of the season.
Wylie put the Crimson on the board at the 14:12 mark when she controlled an attempted clear by the Crusader defense 30 yards from goal, and then her shot skipped pass Holy Cross sophomore goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) into the net. Holy Cross had an opportunity to tie the game at the 15:18 mark when junior Lauren Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.) blasted a shot from just outside the penalty area but it hit the cross bar.
Wylie scored her second goal of the game just 42 seconds into the second half to give Harvard a 2-0 lead, as she took a pass from Rachael Lau on the sideline and drove to the goal where she placed the ball into lower left corner of the net. Harvard put the game out of reach at the 81:52 mark when Lau sent a corner kick into the box and Sara Sedgwick controlled the ball, leaving it for Zoe Sarnack who then scored the goal.
Pietrowicz made six saves, while Shields stopped three shots to earn the win.
The Crusaders return to action when they host Colgate in Patriot League action at Hart Soccer Field on Friday, October 21, at 3:00 p.m.
