WORCESTER, Mass. - Colgate's Jillian Arnault scored the game-winner with 4:12 left in the second sudden-death overtime period as the Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to Colgate, 2-1, in Patriot League action this afternoon at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-10 overall (1-2 Patriot League), while the Raiders improve to 8-6-1 overall (1-2 Patriot League).
Christine Walker gave Colgate a 1-0 lead at 14:45 into game when she scored her second goal of the season. Franny Iacuzzi sent a crossing pass from the left side to Walker who knocked the ball into net from eight yards out.
At the 68:38 mark, junior Casey Boland (Langhorne, Pa.) tied the game at 1-1 with her first goal of the season. Freshman Lauren Wright (Biglerville, Pa.) went on a breakaway while Colgate goalie Carly Sousa came out of the net and deflected a shot from Wright that bounced to Boland, who then shot the ball into the empty net. Wright earned her first collegiate assist on the goal.
With 4:12 left in the second overtime, Jillian Arnault fired a shot from 20 yards out to the left side of the goal that deflected off a Holy Cross player into the lower left corner of the net for her third goal of the season and her third game-winning goal of the year.
Holy Cross senior goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) made eight saves, while Sousa stopped three shots.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, October 20, when they travel to West Point, N.Y., to play Army at 3:30 p.m.
