HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team was shutout at Colgate, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Holy Cross falls to 3-11 (1-2 Patriot League) and Colgate improves to 5-8-1 (2-1 Patriot League).
The match was a battle of tough defense, with both teams holding onto a scoreless first half. The Crusaders' held Colgate scoreless until Colgate's Christine Walker scored off of Jessica Bitsack's corner kick at the 82:32 mark. Holy Cross had nine shots in the game, but was unable to capitalize on any of them.
Making her first season start for Holy Cross, sophomore goalkeeper Mary Ferketic (West Hartford, Conn.) made five saves for the Crusaders. With the loss, Ferketic falls to 0-1. Colgate goalkeeper Rebecca Michlin earned her third shutout of the season and improves to 4-7-1.
The Crusaders return home to the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Friday, October 17, for a 7:00 p.m. match up against Patriot League opponent Army.
