WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to Bucknell, 6-0, in Patriot League action this afternoon at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-9 overall (1-1 Patriot League), while the Bison improve to 6-6 overall (2-0 Patriot League). Bucknell's Jennifer Dervarics had a hat-trick, while Krista Lee Gentile scored two goals.
At 5:53 into the game, Krista Lee Gentile gave the Bison a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the game. Gentile took a shot from 12 yards out that was knocked out of the goal by a Holy Cross defender, but Gentile then fired the rebound into the goal. At the 15:05 mark, Jennifer Dervarics scored her first goal of the contest when she scored from 23 yards out into the upper left corner of the net.
Bucknell then went onto score four second half goals. At the 52:56 mark, Gentile sent a through pass to Dervarics who then scored from eight yards out. At 63:39, Dervarics returned the favor by sending a through pass to Gentile who scored from 10 yards out. Dervarics scored her third goal of the game and seventh of the season at 66:42, when Molly Linhart sent a pass from the left side 25 yards out that Dervarics controlled in front of the net, and then buried the ball into the net from 12 yards out. Brooke Stokes scored the last goal of the game at the 83:53 mark when she knocked in a rebound off a shot from Leslie Schulze that had hit the crossbar.
Holy Cross senior goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) made 11 saves, while Kathryn Sutton stopped three shots for Bucknell.
The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, October 14, when they host Colgate in a Patriot League game at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
