BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team began Patriot League play Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Lehigh. Sophomore Lauren Wright (Biglerville, Pa.) scored a pair of goals for the Crusaders in their first conference win of the season. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 2-9 overall (1-0 Patriot League) and Lehigh falls to 4-5 overall (0-1 Patriot League).
Wright's first goal of the afternoon came at the 16:40 mark when she received a pass through the box from senior Casey Boland (Langhorne, Pa). The Crusaders scored their second goal with less than a minute remaining in the first half when freshman Katherine Donnelly (Londonderry, N.H.) received an assist from freshman Micaela Collins (Skillman, N.J.) and scored her fifth goal of the season. Holy Cross closed out the first half of play with a 2-0 lead.
The Crusaders maintained their lead the entire second half and put the game out of reach for Lehigh when Wright scored her second goal of the game. Wright scored off of the assist by junior Paige Harrison (Sutton, Mass.) in the 86th minute of the game.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Stone (Rockville, Md.) had two saves and earned the shut out for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders return home to the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Monday October 6th for a 7:00 pm non-conference match up with Manhattan.
