Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to UMass, 1-0, on a rainy Friday afternoon at Hart Soccer Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-5 on the season, while the Minutewomen improve to 3-2-1.
The lone goal of the game came at the 1:37 mark when UMass' Britt Canfield shot the ball from the right side and Holy Cross sophomore goalie Cashel Scanlon (Bethesda, Md.) blocked the shot, but Jenny Roehrig scored off the rebound from the middle of the box. Scanlon was solid in net the rest of the half as she made a total of five saves including two big stops off shots from Tiffany Hamill at the 36:15 mark and Roehrig at the 38:14 mark.
Sophomore goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) kept Holy Cross in the game with two saves in the second half including a diving save on Vanessa Patry at the 85:01 mark. UMass goalie Kristin Walker earned the win with eight saves.
The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Hamden, Conn, to take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m
