Providence, R.I. - The Holy Cross women's soccer team fell to Providence College, 3-1, on Friday afternoon at Glay Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-3, while the Friars improve to 2-2.
Providence got on the board first when Kathryn Mahoney scored at the 27:09 mark from a header by Erin Mastrodonato. Holy Cross freshman Casey Boland (Langshorne, Pa.) tied the game at the 34:55 mark when she scored her first collegiate goal with an assist credited to junior Meredith Davis (Worcester, Mass.). Four minutes later the Friars would take the lead for good when Amanda Klane fired the ball into the upper right hand corner of the net. Ashley Amaral put the game out of reach when she scored the lone goal of the second half at the 53:36 mark from an assist by Klane.
Holy Cross sophomore goalie Cashel Scanlon (Bethesda, Md.) made three saves in the first half, while sophomore goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) stopped four shots in the second half. Friar goalie Ashley Fedyshyn earned the win with six saves.
The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Falmouth, Maine, to take on the Maine Black Bears on Tuesday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m.
