Crusader Women's Soccer Downs Iona, 1-0

Worcester, Mass. - Junior Lauren Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.) scored the only goal of the game at the 64:31 mark as the Holy Cross women's soccer team defeated Iona, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon at Hart Soccer Field. The Crusaders earned their first win of the year as they improve to 1-2 on the season, why the Gaels fall to 0-2-1.

Holy Cross sophomore goalie Cashel Scanlon (Bethesda, Md.) faced eight shots in the first half stopping all of them, including a couple of diving saves from shots by Iona's Stephanie Sommers.

The game remained scoreless until Pereira scored her first goal of the season off a drop pass from junior Meredith Davis (Worcester, Mass.). Holy Cross sophomore goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) made a big save off a shot by Sommers at the 84:15 mark to help clinch the victory and the shutout for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Loudonville, N.Y., to take on the Siena Saints on Saturday, September 3, at 3:00 p.m.
