WORCESTER, Mass. - Manhattan's Christine Fischer had a goal and an assist to lead the Jaspers to a 3-0 victory over the Holy Cross women's soccer team at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders fall to 0-1-1 on the season with the loss, while Manhattan improves to 2-0-0 with the victory.
The Jaspers opened the scoring at the 16:15 mark, when Christine Reina knocked home a cross from Courtney McMahon from five yards out. Manhattan increased its lead to 2-0 at the 36:22 mark, on a goal by Kathleen Kuntz. Holy Cross junior goalkeeper Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.) made a save off a shot by Kimarie Balistierri, but was unable to hold onto the ball, and Kuntz knocked it into the net at the far post. The final goal of the day came at the 82:26 mark, when Fischer won a loose ball near the top of the Crusader penalty box and slipped it home from 20 yards away.
Pietrowicz made five saves on the day for Holy Cross, while Alicia DeFino and Caitlin Trupiano each had one save for Manhattan.
Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, August 29, when it travels to Fairfield for a 7:00 p.m. game.
