Women’s Soccer Ties Hartford, 0-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After two overtimes Holy Cross tied Hartford on Friday afternoon at the Fairfield Invitational hosted by Fairfield University. The Crusaders record is now 0-4-2 while the Hawks move on to 2-1-3 overall.

With 3:14 on the clock, Holy Cross had its first chance to score with its first shot by sophomore Megan Greineder (East Greenwich, R.I.). The Crusaders came back again with a shot by freshman Claire Malone (Glen Ridge, N.J.). Malone tried again in the 76th minute, but Hartford goalie Jessica Jurg made another save.

Still tied 0-0 the teams went to the first overtime. Nine seconds into the period sophomore Annie Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) tried to put the Crusaders on top, but again Jurg made the save. In the 104th minute, Malone made the last shot for Holy Cross before time expired in the second overtime.
The Crusaders were outshot by the Hawks 16-8, as the Hawks had six shots on goal while the Crusaders fired five. Junior captain, goalie Carly McCabe (Barrington, R.I.) made six saves during the game while posting her second shutout of the season and the eighth of her career.  
Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 15, when it takes on Fairfield for their final game of the Fairfield Invitational for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
